Lucknow:
Opposition parties have decided to grill the Mayawati government on the floor of the Uttar
Pradesh Assembly from tomorrow on alleged involvement of BSP leaders in heinous crimes like rape, or in shielding criminals.
"There has been a spurt in incidents of rape in the state with a fresh one reported in Fatehpur. It has been found that in many cases, BSP leaders are directly involved or are shielding criminals. The matter will be raised in the House tomorrow and a reply will be sought from the government," Congress Legislature Party leader Pramod Tewari told reporters here today.
He said Congress will garner the support of other Opposition parties to raise these issues vociferously and corner the government.
He alleged that names of over 10 BSP leaders involved in heinous crimes have already come to light while many others were still not identified and held the political party responsible for giving them tickets.
Terming the involvement of BSP leaders in such cases as unfortunate, Tewari said it is a matter of concern and also a blot on the state.
Leader of Opposition in the Assembly and senior SP leader Ahmed Hasan also lashed out at the state government for the growing number of crime cases against women and said his
party would raise its voice against the issue both inside and outside the legislature.
