Lucknow: Four policemen posted at an important intersection in Lucknow were caught fighting on camera on Sunday morning. Eyewitnesses said the fight was over division of bribes collected from trucks and other vehicles that pass through the area.
In the video, two of the policemen are seen raining blows on each other, pushing, pulling and jostling. Two others are seen trying to break up the fight but it is impossible to pull apart the combatants. They even take up their lathis but fail to prevail. Later they were joined by a fifth policeman, a senior officer, who also tried to break up the fight.
Eyewitnesses said the spot was one through which a lot of vehicles, mostly trucks, passed and money was seen changing hands. They said one of the policemen was trying to take the money that the others wanted to share and then the fight broke out.
The local police, however, denied the reports of bribery, reported news agency Press Trust of India.
The brawl was with a Home Guard over clearing the traffic jam in Itaunja area, PTI quoted Superintendent of Police Manjil Saini as saying.
The policeman, Virendra Yadav, has been suspended and the local police have written to the Home Guard directorate, seeking action against their personnel, Mr Saini was quoted as saying.
The police also claimed the video, which had been circulated on Whatsapp, was a few days old.
