The wife and 22-year-old son of a senior railway official were found dead with gunshot wounds in their house situated in a high-security zone of Uttar Pradesh's capital Lucknow, police said on Saturday. The officer's daughter was unharmed but was in trauma, they said. The residential building where the incident took place is located just meters away from the chief minister's official bungalow.
According to reports, the railway official was in the national capital - where he is posted - when the incident took place at his official house in Lucknow's Gautampalli.
The police said the incident doesn't appear to be a robbery gone wrong. They also said that the victims had interacted with their house staff in the morning, hours before they were found dead.
"He is a senior railway officer. His wife and son's body were found. They were shot dead. Prima facie, doesn't seem like a case of robbery (loot). We are investigating the case," Sujit Pandey, police commissioner, Lucknow, told reporters.
"The son is aged 20-22 years. The daughter is not injured but she is in trauma. Both the bodies were found on the bed. They had met servants in the morning, this incident took place after that," he added.
The daughter has been admitted to a Lucknow hospital, the police said.
Gautampalli is the UP capital's most high-profile area, where several ministers and senior officials have their residences. Raj Bhavan, the official residence of the governor, also falls in this area. It is among the most protected regions in the state with heavy police presence round the clock.
