Lucknow:
Athar Abbas Naqvi, brother of BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi has sent a legal notice to Shia Central Waqf Board's chairman and sought for a compensation of Rs 50 lakh for allegedly removing him as a caretaker.
The notice was sent to Shia Central Waqf Board's chairman Waseem Rizvi yesterday by Athar for removing him as mutawalli (caretaker) of a waqf property in Bareilly over corruption charges on Jul 23.
However, Rizvi denied receiving any such notice and said that Athar will have to go to jail if charges against him are proved.
"I have not got any legal notice yet from Athar. I will reply to it once I receive it. The charges against him are being probed and he will have to go to jail, once they are proved," Rizvi said.
He alleged that Athar had extorted money from members of Shia community for providing them with land for graves and misusing the name of his brother Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs.
"Athar also lost a legal case knowingly in a waqf property case and did not inform the board. This is also a crime," he said. Athar Abbas Naqvi, on the other hand, has rejected the allegations.
"There is no complaint pending against me. I was removed due to political reasons," he said.
