Lucknow:
Swine flu claimed its first victim in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh when a retired army man died late on Tuesday after the drug used in the treatment, Tamiflu, could not be made available, an official said today.
Officials said the deceased was admitted to a hospital January 7 with pneumonia symptoms.
His samples were sent to the Sanjay Gandhi Post-graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) where swine flu was confirmed.
After this he was quarantined and shifted to a separate ward.
However, his condition worsened late on Tuesday and he died in the night, an official told IANS.
Admitting that Tamiflu was not available in the city, Chief Medical Officer S.N. Yadav said the drug would be available in the city in a day or two as they were expecting a consignment from the union government.
