Lucknow: Upset that she had turned down his proposal, a teacher in Uttar Pradesh shot his colleague inside a classroom and then killed himself, police said on Wednesday.
While Bunty Prakash, who barged into the classroom in Marhera in Etah, 300 km from here, died instantly, the woman Neha Kumari is battling for life.
The incident occurred in Aadarsh Junior School while Neha Kumari was teaching the students. As Neha Kumari fell to the ground in a pool of blood, Prakash consumed some poison.
"Prakash died on the spot and the woman teacher was rushed to a hospital by the school authorities. Her condition is stated to be serious," police inspector Jasbir Singh told reporters in Etah.
Doctors in Etah have referred Neha Kumari to Agra as her condition deteriorated.
"Though we are yet to ascertain the exact reason behind the incident, preliminary investigations reveal that the woman teacher had recently turned down Bunty Prakash's marriage proposal. This could probably be the reason that prompted Bunty to take the extreme step," he added.
