A 27-year-old unemployed software engineer has been arrested by a joint team of police from Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh for allegedly blackmailing a young woman living in Hyderabad.
Shoaib Khan was arrested yesterday in Thakurganj area here for allegedly blackmailing the woman from Meerut who is now working in Hyderabad, police said.
After getting friendly with the woman on the internet, Shoaib morphed her photographs and demanded Rs 30,000 from her to not circulate her 'indecent' pictures in public.
Afraid of the consequences, the woman transferred Rs 10,000 to Shoaib's account but he continued to demand more money after which she registered a complaint with Hyderabad police, they added.
During interrogation, Shoaib confessed to his involvement in blackmailing the woman for money due to unemployment, the police said.
