Ludhiana:
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will take part in the golden jubilee celebrations of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) in Ludhiana on December 8.
The Prime Minister will also speak at a conference on agriculture.
The Ludhiana administration and police have beefed up security in and around the university campus and even banned carrying of weapons in the district ahead of the Prime Minister's visit.
This will be the second high profile visit to the university campus in the last 10 days.
President Pranab Mukherjee visited the campus on November 27 and addressed the faculty and students. He had said a rethink was needed on agriculture to ensure food security of the country.
PAU is known for pioneering work in agriculture, especially wheat and paddy crops, to herald the Green Revolution in 1960s to make the country self-sufficient in the production of food grains.
