Meerut:
Jails in Uttar Pradesh will soon have CCTVs, computers and broadband networks with the state government approving a proposal in this regard, officials said today.
The systems will be installed in 63 prisons - including jails in Agra, Varanasi, Fatehgarh, Bareily, Banda, Etah and Fatehpur -- across the state and the work is expected to be complete by year-end, they said.
With the installation of CCTVs, jail authorities can now closely monitor each and every activity of the under trials and prisoners, the officials said.
A K Panda, DIG (Jails), Meerut zone told reporters around 20 CCTV cameras will be installed in Meerut jail.
Apart from keeping a tab on activities of the prisoners, the jail authorities will also record the movement of those, who come to meet the inmates.
