Five labourers were killed and five others seriously injured after their jeep rammed into a stationary truck on the NH-58 in Daurala area of Meerut.
The jeep carrying 10 labourers was on way to an NTPC plant last evening when it rammed into the truck which was lying stationary on the road following an accident two days back.
The deceased labourers were identified as Harkishore, Santosh, Lalkaran, Ramveer and Jai Singh, police said, adding that the seriously injured were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, angry over the incident, locals staged protest on the road and blamed toll plaza authorities for the mishap, claiming that they did not remove the dilapidated truck from the road which caused the accident.
