Meerut: 5 Injured After Clashes Between Two Groups; Tension in the Area
Meerut: At least five people were injured after clashes broke out between two groups in Meerut, in western Uttar Pradesh, on Saturday.

The incident occurred around 2 pm when a group of people objected to the installation of a water facilitation centre. A scuffle soon followed.

Some vehicles and kiosks were set on fire by the mob; the two groups also pelted stones on each other.

The police soon reached the spot to control the situation.

"Patrolling has been intensified, and police forces from other areas along with the Provincial Armed Constabulary and Rapid Action Force have been deployed to restore peace," Superintendent of Police Om Prakash Singh said.

Six hundred policemen from Meerut and nearby districts have been deployed to maintain law and order in the area. Another 600 soldiers of the paramilitary forces too have been deployed.
