Meerut:
Surinder Koli, who was convicted of killing young children in Nithari near Delhi nearly a decade ago, will be hanged next Friday at a jail in Uttar Pradesh.
"The hanging will be carried out on September 12...all the rules and procedures will be followed," Jail Superintendent SHM Rizvi said on Thursday.
A warrant issued on Wednesday said Koli, who is in a jail in Ghaziabad, should be hanged as he has run out of legal options to appeal against his death sentence.
In a case that horrified India, 42-year-old Koli was found guilty of serial rapes and murders between 2005 and 2006 at his employer, businessman Moninder Singh Pandher's house in Nithari. Remains of several missing children were found near the house.
Koli was sentenced to death in four cases and his death sentence was confirmed by the Supreme Court in 2011. The court observed that Koli "appears to be the serial killer" and said "no mercy can be shown to him."
This will be the first execution since the BJP-led government came to power.
Just a month after taking charge as Home Minister, Rajnath Singh had advised President Pranab Mukherjee that Koli's mercy plea should be rejected.
The President's rejection of Koli's appeal in July paved the way for his hanging.
The Central Bureau of Investigation or CBI had filed a charge sheet against Koli in 16 cases. He was charged with killing children after sexually abusing them.
Investigations that began with a missing girl, led police teams to a series of gruesome murders of children whose remains were found near the house Koli shared with his employer, Pandher.
Pandher was also sentenced to death in one case but was acquitted by the Allahabad High Court.
