'We will block all toll-plazas in India on December 18': Bharat Kisan Union

Meerut: Bharat Kisan Union (BKU), which has captured Siwaya toll plaza near Meerut to protest against tax collection from commuters, on Tuesday said it would block all toll-plazas across the country if their demands were not met.

"On December 18, Siwaya and all toll plazas across the country will be captured by us," Rakesh Tikait, national spokesperson of BKU said on Tuesday.

Tikait also said the personnel managing the toll-plazas would not be allowed to charge toll fee from the commuters on December 18.

"We will ensure that all vehicles ply toll-free," he said.

BKU has been protesting at Siwaya toll plaza for the past 28 days demanding that it be shifted outside the Meerut Municipal Corporation limits and the toll rates be halved.

"Despite the fact that administration had assured us of taking appropriate decision, the administration seems reluctant to concede our demands. Hence, we are left with no other option but to continue with our agitation," he said.
