Mumbai:
Two women were allegedly raped and stabbed by unidentified men near the Belapur flyover in Navi Mumbai late on Tuesday night. Cops said that one of the victims was found dead, while the other is battling for life at Sion Hospital.
Police said that 20-year-old Vashi resident Sangita (name changed), who survived the incident, was unconscious when a beat marshal spotted her on Wednesday afternoon at 2 pm, 14 hours after the two women were attacked. When she regained consciousness last morning, she told the cops about the other 29-year-old victim Neeta (name changed).
Cops rushed to the spot and recovered the body, which was lying below the flyover on a pipe. According to cops, Sangita was found at some distance from Neeta's body, which means she had crawled to the spot. Belapur police have recovered two knives and clothes from the spot, and are conducting investigations to identify the persons responsible for the crime.
"We have registered a offence against unknown persons under Section 302 of the IPC. We are investigating the matter, and are awaiting the post-mortem reports. We will take necessary action after receiving more information from Sangita, who is recuperating," said Shekhar Tore, senior police inspector at CBD Belapur.
