Mumbai:
In perhaps the biggest haul of the synthetic stimulant drug Mephedrone in the metropolis, the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) today claims to have seized 151.5 kgs of the contraband worth Rs 30 crore from a hotel in suburban Oshiwara and arrested four persons.
"We have seized 151.5 kgs of Mephedrone, also known as MD and meow meow, worth Rs 30 crore from Oshiwara," an ATS official said.
On a specific information, the sleuths raided the hotel and apprehended four persons who had come to sell the contraband.
"We have also seized some material that is used to manufacture the drug," the officer said, adding the accused used to manufacture the drug at their house.
The accused are booked under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
"The seized contraband was meant to be supplied across Mumbai within next fifteen days," the officer added.
The accused were produced before a local court which remanded them in police custody till July 10.
In March, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) had seized 405 kgs of Mephedrone in Sangli district of western Maharashtra and arrested three persons.
Later, Police had recovered 110 kgs of Mephedrone from the house of a police constable in the same district that month.
