20-year-old rescued after being dumped in creek
Mumbai: A 20-year-old student in Pune was kidnapped, looted off Rs 60,000 and dumped at Vashi creek by four persons on Saturday. On hearing his cries for help, fishermen saved him and admitted him to a hospital.

According to Vashi police, the victim Nikhil Narendra Gatagat, is a student of Bachelor of Electronics and Telecommunication in College of Engineering, Pune (CoEP).

Gatagat, a native of Latur was on his way to Pune from Latur by bus on Saturday, and had reached Swargate bus depot.

He hired an auto rickshaw to take him to his hostel room. While he was on the way, a man stopped his auto rickshaw and sat down with Gatagat. A little later, the man subdued Gatagat with chloroform, leaving him in a semi-unconscious state. The accused then loaded him onto a car.

Rescued
About 8.30 pm, the accused threw him into Vashi creek. Gatagat's cries alerted nearby fishermen who came to his rescue, causing the accused to flee. The fishermen pulled Gatagat out and admitted him to a private hospital. The fishermen also informed the Vashi police.

The accused had robbed Rs 60,000 from the victim, who was carrying the sum to pay for his admission for the next term. On Sunday, Vashi police recorded Gatagat's statement and registered an offence.

"Gatagat was kidnapped in Pune and was dumped in Vashi creek. We have registered an FIR of kidnapping and attempt to murder against four accused," said RS Sardesai, senior inspector, Vashi police station.
