Nayan was getting off from his school bus when he was approached by the family's domestic help who claimed to have come to pick him up.
An 8-year-old boy was kidnapped in Kalyan town on the outskirts of Mumbai on March 1. Even after the boy's family had paid a ransom of Rs 15 lakh, the boy was murdered.
Nayan was getting off from his school bus on Tuesday when he was approached by the family's domestic help who claimed to have come to pick him up. Seeing the man on his fathers' motorcycle, the boy went with him, police said.
After kidnapping Nayan, the accused called his father Santosh Jain and demanded ransom. Mr Jain immediately informed the police who formed four teams and set a trap for the accused. The police meanwhile identified the three kidnappers after spotting them on CCTV footage.
On Friday afternoon, Mr Jain left a bag with Rs 15 lakh in it outside a railway station as directed by the kidnappers. As soon as the accused bolted away on a motorcycle with the ransom, the police swung into action and after a 20 km chase, they finally arrested three of the accused.
On questioning, the accused confessed that they were scared to have been identified and therefore killed the child, the police said.
Nayan's body was later recovered from a river 30 kilometers away in Murbad.
