Aditya Thackeray Meets Devendra Fadnavis Over Juhu Aerodrome Security

Aditya Thackeray also raised the old demand of turning the Mumbai race course into a park that would be open to all Mumbaikars.

Mumbai: Days after the terror attack at the Air Force base in Punjab's Pathankot, Yuva Sena President Aditya Thackeray today met Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and raised the issue of security at the Juhu Aerodrome in Mumbai.

"There is no security at Juhu Aerodrome. It is a strategic asset and it serves important rigs like Bombay High. I have met the Chief Minister and requested him to deploy CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) security at the Juhu Aerodrome after the Pathankot incident given that Mumbai is always at risk from terrorists. The Chief Minister has assured that they will ask for CISF cover at the aerodrome," Aditya Thackeray, 25, told reporters.

The aerodrome handles helicopter operations out of Mumbai. It is also home to the Bombay Flying Club and is used by private aircraft too. There has been a lot of concern about the security as the perimeter wall is often breached through slums surrounding the airport. The airport is right in the middle of the posh Juhu suburb, which is home to many Bollywood actors.

Mr Thackeray also raised the old demand of turning the Mumbai race course into a park that would be open to all Mumbaikars, with the race course being moved to another location outside the city.

"We should shift the racecourse somewhere and develop the land as a Mumbai Park. It should be developed on the lines of Hyde Park in London or Central Park in New York," Mr Thackeray said.

The Shiv Sena youth wing leader also refused to comment on Pakistani singer Ghulam Ali's performance in Kolkata today. The Shiv Sena had opposed the ghazal maestro's performance in Mumbai following which it was cancelled. However, when questioned about the his idea of revamping nightlife in Mumbai by allowing cafes in non-residential areas to remain open all night, Mr Thackeray said, "The chief minister has been briefed on the issue and I am hoping he will take a call on it soon."
