Mumbai:
One more person was arrested in connection with the theft of 23-kg gold bars worth Rs
five crore early this month, police said.
Two more accused, including a former corporator of Pune, were still at large, they added.
The accused Raju Rawat, brother of Paresh Rawat who had decamped with the gold bars belonging to his employer from a jewellery in December first week, was apprehended
from a food court in Mumbai-Pune Highway, police said.
Paresh was arrested last week from Goa and three kg gold had been recovered from him, police said, adding the remaining 20kg gold was seized from Raju.
According to police, Paresh, who worked at Devkrupa Jewellers in South Mumbai, received the 23-kg gold consignment from a customer in Delhi and then disappeared.
Joint Police Commissioner (Crime) Himanshu Roy said, "the plan was hatched by Rawal brothers with the help of an ex-corporator, Amin Shaik and his brother Ali. Amin has
several cases against him, including murder and robbery."
A manhunt has been launched for the Shaikh brothers, police added.
