Mumbai: At least one person died while six others incurred major injuries after a large portion of a five-storey building collapsed in in Goregaon (west) in suburban Mumbai on Tuesday.
Rescue operations are underway and five injured have been pulled out of the debris so far. More people are feared to be trapped.
A Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai official said that the injured have been rushed to Siddharth Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.
"We are trying to clear the debris to see if we can find any more survivors of the incident. Until now we have only found one dead body in the rubble but the number may go up after we clear the whole area," the official said.
The building is a residential cum commercial complex located near the railway station in Kakaji Nagar's Prasad shopping centre in suburban Goregaon West.
