Mumbai: Miss India Earth 2011 Harleen Kaur was detained at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport on Wednesday night. She was allegedly carrying branded purses and cosmetics worth Rs 1.9 lakh without declaring them.
The incident is yet another case of a celebrity trying to sneak in expensive belongings into the country to save duty.
According to Custom officials, superintendent of Customs Ashok Pandit intercepted Kaur, who had arrived at the airport from Thailand on Wednesday night.
The officials revealed that Kaur was carrying branded purses and cosmetics, which she hadn't declared.
When the officials approached Kaur and stated that they intended to check the goods, she told them that the purses she was carrying were local products. Undeterred by her reasoning, the officials detained Kaur, confiscated her belongings and only then allowed her to leave.
