Bikers snatch jewels worth Rs 2 crore from courier boy

Mumbai: Two people robbed jewellery worth Rs 2 crore from a courier boy in Vile Parle on Thurday while he travelling in an auto rickshaw.

Sanjay Saini was on his way back to the courier service's office with a parcel from Mumbai airport. At around 11 am two unknown bikers snatched the bag and sped away.

According to Mr Saini, the assailants had weapons with which they overpowered him. He immediately reported the incident to his office, which in turn contacted the police.

Cops questioned Mr Saini to rule out his involvement in the robbery.

"We are checking CCTV cameras installed in the area for clues. It was not raining at the time of the robbery so the clarity of the footage might help us.

Witnesses are also being questioned. We are investigating whether Saini has any role in the crime, as no one knew that he was carrying jewellery in the bag," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone VIII) Satyanarayan Choudhary.
