BJP Corporator In Mumbai Allegedly Assaulted By Shiv Sena Corporators
When questioned about the alleged assault, Uddhav Thackeray said he was unaware of it
Mumbai: A BJP corporator, Makarand Narvekar, has alleged that he was beaten up by Shiv Sena corporators at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation or BMC headquarters in Mumbai on Wednesday.

The incident took place after Sena corporators started shouting slogans "Thackeray! Thackeray!" when Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray took to the stage at the BMC to receive a cheque of Rs 647 crore from the state's finance Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar to compensate for the loss of octroi to the BMC which has now been discontinued after the introduction of Goods and Services Tax or GST. Such slogan shouting is the Shiv Sena's usual way of welcoming their party leader at the Sena-run BMC.

In response to chants of Thackery, BJP corporators started shouting "Modi Modi". Mr Narvekar claims following this, he was assaulted by Shiv Sena corporators in the corridor of the BMC.

When questioned about the alleged assault, Uddhav Thackeray said he was unaware of it.

There is constant turf war between the Shiv Sena and the BJP over the functioning of the BMC.

The last time tensions escalated between the two parties at the BMC was in the aftermath of the civic polls where similar sloganeering was witnessed from both the BJP and the Shiv Sena in the presence of the Thackeray family that had come to felicitate the New Mayor of Mumbai, Vishwanath Mahadeshwar.
