Mumbai: In a daytime murder-robbery that has left Ghatkopar residents shocked, the wife of a well-known city-based builder was killed in her home in Ghatkopar (East) on Monday.
The accused, yet to be identified, slit her throat with a kitchen knife, cops said.
Chetna, 51, wife of Jayant Ajmera of Ajmera builders, was alone at the time of the incident. Her husband was away at work. He had left their first-floor flat in Vaishali building on 60 Feet Road near Vikrant circle at 2 in the afternoon.
When he returned around 7 in the evening, he found his wife's body in the kitchen in a pool of blood.
"The probe is going on," said DCP Sanjay Shintre. After primary investigations, it has been established that the intention was robbery as cash and gold ornaments are missing from the house.
Cops said that there are marks of struggle on Chetna's body.
Officials said the victim's house was undergoing some repairs for the past few days, and speculated that the accused could be one of the workers.
Cops have so far detained three people in the case. They also said that personal rivalry could not be ruled out. They added that no CCTV footage of the building is available.
