Mumbai:
A senior police inspector on police recruitment duty allegedly misbehaved with a female candidate on Monday.
After the young woman registered a complaint against the officer with a senior, the errant cop was sent for a medical examination to evaluate if he had reported to work under the influence of alcohol.
According to the police, the incident took place at the Worli police ground, where the 22-year-old woman had reported as a candidate for police recruitment. She was waiting to appear for her physical test when Senior Police Inspector Mohan Nimbalkar approached her.
"Nimbalkar, who reports to the Local Arms III division, accosted the woman and allegedly winked at her. He later handed over his mobile number to her, asking her to call him at night. He promised he would ensure her entry into the police department, without appearing for the tests. Confused and bewildered by the unwelcome overtures made by the senior police inspector, the candidate narrated the entire incident to another female home guard who was on recruitment duty at the venue," said a police officer from the Worli police station.
The home guard came to her rescue and assisted her to a senior officer.
The officer intervened and sent Nimbalkar for a medical test, as he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. However, we cannot confirm that fact till we have the report in our hands," said the officer.
"Once the medical report comes in we will decide what action will be taken against Nimbalkar. He has been reported against for misbehaving in the past as well. He had abused a local in Nagpada under the influence of alcohol. He was transferred from the Nagpada police station after the incident," said an officer from the Nagpada police station.
