Chain-snatcher leaps off flyover to escape cops
Mumbai: After giving beat marshals a run for their money this 30-year-old chain snatcher tempted fate by jumping off the Andheri flyover. Predictably, his dream run ended immediately, the fall fracturing both his legs.

At around 11 am on Sunday, Mohammad Aziz Kasam Sheikh, along with an accomplice, robbed a victim at Dindoshi in Goregaon. Police were on his trail immediately, and a chase ensued from Jogeshwari to the Andheri flyover. A frantic Sheikh soon abandoned his bike, sitting pillion on his accomplice's two-wheeler instead.
Realising that the cops were closing in, Sheikh decided to take a leap of faith. Cops watched in horror as he jumped off the Andheri flyover to escape handcuffs.

In spite of his crippled condition, the daredevil tried to rise and make a dash again. However, cops were able to apprehend him easily and rushed him to Cooper Hospital to fix his broken bones. . Three gold chains were recovered from Sheikh. Sohel, accused's brother said, "I have no idea why he jumped from the flyover. We are thankful that even after falling from a height of 100 feet, he has escaped only with fractures on his legs."

A traffic constable said, "As soon as the thief leapt from the flyover, we called in a van. He was sent for medical treatment afterward."

"After he receives treatment, we will take him to the police station, where a case has been registered against him," said Senior Police Inspector Vinayak Kakde of the Dindoshi Police Station.

"He appeared to be a hardened criminal, quite reckless and fearless. We will arrest him under section 41(d) of The Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), which allows the police to arrest a suspected thief," Inspector Kakde added.
