Mumbai:
Charges have been framed against Bollywood actor Govinda in a court in Mumbai's Borivali suburb for allegedly slapping a man on a film set in 2008. The charges have been framed under sections 352, 323 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code.
In 2008, Govinda had allegedly slapped an individual on the sets of the film
Money Hai Toh Honey Hai for asking him why he wasn't seen in his constituency. Govinda was a Member of Parliament at that time. Govinda's explanation at the time was that the man was misbehaving on the set. A case had been registered at Goregaon Police Station in Mumbai at that time.
Govinda had contested against BJP heavyweight Ram Naik from the Mumbai North constituency in 2004 General Elections on a Congress ticket and defeated him. However, his stint in politics was not very pleasant. The actor-MP often came under fire for not visiting his constituency for a long time. In the 2009 General Elections, Govinda opted out of politics to concentrate more on films.
The hearing in the case is expected to begin on April 24 and if he is found guilty, the punishment could go up to four years in prison.
