Mumbai : In Mumbai 1.4 lakh municipal workers are on strike today.
These include Class IV employees such as nurses, hospital attendants, fire brigade department, drivers, people who monitor water supply and conservancy workers.
Garbage collection and waste disposal could also be hit.
The Bombay Municipal Corporation (BMC) has a contingency plan. The BMC will rope in home guard personnel, civil defence labourers and volunteers to tide over the situation.
This afternoon BMC chief will meet with union representatives.
The Shiv Sena controls the BMC.
