Mumbai: Completion of the trial of Pakistani gunman Ajmal Amir Kasab at Arthur Road Jail had not
only brought relief for nearby residents but also for the civic body, which has now received the green signal to lay water pipelines in the area in Central Mumbai.
Due to security reasons, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) could not lay water pipelines in the area and the work was delayed for over a year. But now the civic body has received approval from the police department for the project, which will commence next week, BMC officials said.
The stretch from Jacob Circle to Delisle Road, the site for the Rs 10-crore project near the high security prison, was closed from April 2009 to May 2010 due to the trial.
The BMC has decided to change the underground pipelines supplying water to Worli, Prabhadevi, Lower Parel, and Dadar (West) to augment supply in these areas.
The trail of Kasab, convicted and sentenced to death in the 26/11 attack case, was held inside the Arthur Road Jail due to security reasons.
