Mumbai:
The Kherwadi police are on the lookout for a 30-year-old former call centre employee, who ran an elaborate ruse to cheat women after marrying them. Till date there are six victims identified by the Kherwadi police, of which one is from their jurisdiction.
In the most recent case, Vishal Singh was residing in the Kherwadi area about six months back. He was conducting tuition classes, during which he developed a physical relationship with a 17-year-old girl. Promising to marry her, the accused even took money from her. However, after a few months, the girl became pregnant. Fearing problems, Singh escaped. The girl then approached the Kherwadi police, where a case of rape was registered.
After investigating into the matter, the police discovered that the accused also has previous cases against him in several other police stations including Ulhasnagar, Dahisar and Borivli.
Senior police inspector Avdhoot Chavan of the Kherwadi police station said, "The accused mainly targets women working in good companies. Out of the five women victimised, three were working at an international call centre where he befriended them and got married. After getting married, the accused borrowed money from them and escaped." The police said that the accused is fluent in Hindi and English, and he uses his good looks to charm women before taking advantage of them. The police said the accused might have been operating for years now. The accused hails from Punjab and was earlier living in Ulhasnagar.
The Kherwadi police have advised the employees in the companies to beware of Singh, and requested any women who have gone through the same ordeal to come forward and register a complaint. The police have circulated Singh's photograph to all police stations in Mumbai and Thane, and are expecting to arrest him soon.
