Cops release sketch of the accused who allegedly attacked US woman on Mumbai local train

Mumbai: Railway Police released the sketch of a suspect, who had allegedly attacked and robbed an American woman inside a running suburban train at Charni Road station in south Mumbai.

However, police were yet to establish any concrete evidence to trace the suspect.

The sketch shows the face of the accused with grown hair and is believed to be aged between 20 to 30 years. His height is between 5.6 to 5.8 feet, police said.

"As many as 28 persons, either having criminal antecedents or drug addicts, were grilled but investigators could not accomplish any clue so far," Assistant Police Commissioner (ACP) Pradeep Bijwe said.

Four special teams of Railway Crime Branch were formed under the supervision of Government Railway Police (GRP) Commissioner Prabhat Kumar and two teams have been formed by the Churchgate police station, where an FIR was registered.

The accused, suspected to be a drug addict, had slashed the victim, identified as Michelle Marks, on her neck and cheek when she refused to part with her iPhone in a first-class ladies' compartment of a Borivli-bound local train at about 5 pm yesterday.

The accused jumped out of the train as it slowed down at the Charni Road railway station.

Marks was alone in the compartment. As it was Sunday, the bogie was empty. The victim spotted the accused inside the train at Marine Lines station, police said.

The victim, who resides at Goregaon along with her brother and two others and works with an NGO, had been in Mumbai since a year.

On Sunday, she had gone to Colaba for a prayer meet.
