Mumbai:
After 11 months, three of the five Mumbai police personnel who allegedly attended a Christmas party last year hosted by an aide of gangster Chhota Rajan were reinstated on November 26, even as two others are still facing the music.
Among the three reinstated include Ramesh Khakale, former senior police inspector of Chembur police station.
Besides Khakale, assistant police inspector Bhagwan Nimbalkar and constable Rajendra Ghorpade were reinstated and subsequently posted to the Local Arms ( LA) division at Tardeo, said a police officer.
When contacted, Khakale said that he was reinstated, but refused to divulge more.
Then police commissioner D Sivanandhan on January 2, 2010, had recommended the suspension of the five police officers who allegedly attended a Christmas party hosted by aides of gangster Chhota Rajan and were filmed dancing at the party.
The other two officers who were involved in the case are DCP (special branch-I) Vishwasrao Salve and assistant commissioner of police (Crime Branch) Prakash Wani.
A departmental inquiry had been initiated and home minister RR Patil had ordered a probe into the allegations later.
The party was organised by Chhota Rajan gang sympathisers on Christmas eve, and was meant to celebrate the release of Rajan gang members from jail, including DK Rao, released from prison in October 2009.
The bash was exposed after footage from the party was leaked to the media.
