Mumbai: A one-minute video of two youngsters performing a death-defying stunt on the tracks before an approaching train near Khadaki railway station has gone viral in the virtual world.
Here's how they pull it off
One of them lies down on the tracks moments before an express train arrives, and lets the train pass over him. After the train whizzes by, the person emerges unscathed. His friend, who is apparently shooting this whole episode, joins him and then both of them jubilantly wave at the camera.
After watching the crazy video, the railway police are trying to trace the boys who pulled off the stunt early this month.
The police have appealed to local people to share information about the whereabouts of these 'stuntmen' so that necessary action can be taken against them.
After MiD DAY brought this widely circulated video link to the notice of the Government Railway Police (GRP), they beefed up security around Khadaki railway station.
"It is out of sheer luck that the person doing these stunts has emerged alive. This act is suicidal."
"If a person doing such stunts is hit by any precariously dangling object such as hose pipe from the passing train, he will die on the spot," Senior Inspector of GRP Mahendra Rokade said. "I have asked all my officers to keep a close watch near Khadaki railway tracks and if we find any one doing stunts, the person will be booked for attempt to suicide under Section 309 of the IPC."
Rokade said this was not the first time such dangerous activities had been brought to the GRP's notice.
"We were informed about the similar activities being carried out two years ago and at that time we had beefed up security as well," Rokade said. "This time too, we will do the same."
Reacting to the video, Central Railway public relations officer Y K Singh said, "We are going all out to create awareness asking commuters to strictly use foot over bridge while crossing railway tracks. Minimum four to five people die per month while carelessly crossing railway tracks near Shivajinagar and Pimpri railway stations."
Avi Dodke, a city resident, uploaded the video on Facebook on January 13.
