Mumbai: Almost six months after a complaint was filed against a Borivli-based doctor Pradeep Vyas, he was arrested on Tuesday night on charges of causing death due to negligence.
Hemlata Thakur had filed the complaint on June 13 against Dr Vyas, accusing him of wrongly treating her mother Minaxi Murti (76) after she was admitted to his clinic on April 23. "After a week's treatment, my mother was discharged on April 29. Just two days later, she took to bed and was re-admitted to Dr Vyas' clinic in Borivli (West) on May 2. She breathed her last on May 3. "As per Dr Vyas' medical report, my mother died of a lung infection," said Thakur.
Based on Thakur's complaint, her mother's body was then sent to J J Hospital for a post-mortem. Here, the autopsy report confirmed her suspicion that her mother had succumbed to another ailment (pneumonia).
Thakur added, "In 2010, Vyas had performed an angioplasty on my mother. However, there was no mention of the stent in the autopsy report." Thakur stated that initially she had written to Borivli police on May 26 and sent them a reminder on May 30. Based on her letters, the cops finally registered a complaint on June 13.
S Chate, Senior Police Inspector at the Borivli police station, said, "We have arrested Vyas on charges for wrong treatment and death due to negligence. Investigations are on.
