Thane: Eight Bangladeshi women, who were lodged in the Mira Road police lock-up here, have escaped, police said today.
The incident took place yesterday following which four lady constables have been suspended for dereliction of their duties.
The Navghar Police in Bhayander had arrested 21 people including these eight Bangladeshis on various charges of staying here illegally.
As there was no provision for a ladies lock-up in Navghar police station, they were lodged in Mira Road on Thursday night.
The women allegedly twisted the weak bars of the lock up window and gave a slip to the police in the early hours.
All have been booked under section 224 of the IPC and a hunt is on for them, police added.
