Mumbai:
A Jet Airways flight, 9W523 from Riyadh to Mumbai with 150 passengers onboard made an emergency landing at the Mumbai international airport today after its engine caught fire.
The incident occurred at 5.45 am when the flight, after it landed at the airport, was moving towards taxi way number 4. The fire was noticed by a controller at the Mumbai airport, who raised an alarm. Four fire engines and three water tankers were rushed to the spot.
In a statement issued by the airline, it said, "while taxiing was advised by the Air Traffic Control (ATC), to return to base as there was slight visibility of smoke from engine, as also observed by the cockpit crew. As standard operating procedure one engine was shut down, and guests were safely deplaned".
The aircraft has been moved to the hanger area of the airport and mechanics and engineers are in the process of fixing the engine.
