Mumbai:
A first-year engineering student, Ankush Ingalwar (20), on Wednesday stabbed and injured his 16-year-old girlfriend before jumping from the terrace of a five-storey complex at Sanasenagar in Hadapsar. The incident happened around 10 am, after which Ingalwar was rushed to Sassoon General Hospital. He was declared dead later in the day. The police said the girl, who is the daughter of Ingalwar's aunt, was admitted to a private hospital and was recovering. The Ingalwar family said nobody had any idea about what could have gone wrong between the two.
The assault on the teenager took place just after she had stepped out of her computer tuition classes on the fifth floor of Yashraj Complex. As Ingalwar attacked her with a knife, the injured girl collapsed on to the floor. People present at the spot managed to catch hold of Ingalwar, but he shook them off and jumped off the terrace. He received serious injuries on the head and legs and was admitted to Sassoon in a critical condition. He was declared dead around 1 pm.
Ingalwar's elder brother Balaji said, "My brother had left home at 9 am for college. We were aware that he was attracted to our aunt's daughter, but we are clueless about what went wrong between them." The senior police inspector from Hadapsar police station said they were waiting for the family to recover from the shock before proceeding with investigations. "We need to investigate this case further. Currently the members of the family are in deep shock," said the officer. "We will start investigating the case only after we record the statements of members of the family."
