Mumbai:
The Crime Branch officials on Monday arrested a man from suburban Jogeshwari for demanding Rs 3 lakh from a Shiv Sena worker by claiming himself as fugitive underworld don Ravi Pujari.
According to the officials of crime branch, a man claiming to be Pujari, rang up Shiv Sena worker Nitin Dibolkar seeking Rs 3 lakh as extortion from him.
He also threatened to kill Dibolkar if he failed to oblige to his demand following which Dibolkar lodged a complaint with Vile Parle police.
Acting on a tip-off, the officials nabbed the caller identified as Suresh Gavde from suburban Jogeshwari, police said.
During the investigation, Gavade confessed to have made a call to Dibolkar. He also told the police that he had similarly threatened more people in Mumbai for money.
The officials also said three cases of extortion and a cheating case have already been pending against the accused.
