Film producer found guilty in dowry case
Mumbai: After a 7-year-long wait, Madhuri Doshi was finally awarded justice when a court convicted her estranged husband and film producer Gaurang Doshi for harassing and torturing her.

However, the court acquitted Madhukanta Doshi, her mother in-law of the same charges.
Madhuri had lodged an FIR against her husband Doshi and in-laws for torturing her and demanding dowry under sections 324, 498 A and 406 of the IPC on March 2, 2005.

Her husband demanded Rs five lakh as dowry for which he assaulted her, while her mother in-law allegedly tortured her mentally.

Her lawyers informed that her husband beat up Madhuri regularly, and she mostly called her sister and brother to save her from this ill treatment.

She also alleged that she suffered a miscarriage during her second pregnancy owing to the torture. The court convicted Doshi under Sections 323, 498 A and 406, and handed a three years prison term.

"Although the court gave a judgment in Madhuri's favour, but neither Gaurang nor his lawyers were present in the court. There has been a proclaimed offence against him and a standing non-bailable warrant against him. He is absconding," said Madhuri's lawyers Snehal Khairnar and Sadanand Shetty.

Gaurang Doshi has produced Bollywood films like Deewar (2004), Aankhen (2002) and Bawandar (2000).
