Mumbai: For these 1,500 underprivileged children in Mumbai, this Diwali was fun-filled, full of games, food, sweets and gifts unlike previous years.
Spreading the Diwali cheer, Madhu Mehta and Salaam Bombay foundation hosted a mega Diwali bash for children from 25 institutions and orphanages across the city.
"I'm seeing all this for the first time and I like the event a lot. I don't feel like going home tonight," said 10-year-old Anish Shelar.
Students from the Salaam Bombay Foundation Arts Academy put up performance like dance and drama recitals to keep the children entertained.
Speaking about the hard work that's gone into making the party a success, Nitai Mehta, a member of Madhu Mehta Foundation said, "We really work towards making the kids feel special. It's like inviting them to your home and if you can do it for your children, why can't you do it for these children also?"
Placing all their commitments on the back-burner, volunteers from across the city gathered at the venue to make this night extra special for the kids.
"It's a great feeling to see them enjoy a sit-down meal. It's moving because we see the privileges that we have, we take them for granted but it's good for the children," said Dr Shailen Pettigara, a volunteer at the event.
