Four arrested for taking bets on cricket match

Mumbai: The Crime branch of the Mumbai police today arrested four bookies who allegedly were taking bets on the England-Australia cricket match.
     
The crime branch also seized the equipment used in betting and over Rs 3 lakh in cash.
    
The sleuths said that they have arrested four bookies from suburban Malad identified as Minesh Modi (32) Brijesh Modi (32) Nimesh Desai (40) and Rakesh Ruparel.
    
The crime branch officials said that they had received a tip-off that some people were taking bets in the Bagan Nagar at Malad. When the sleuths searched the house, they seized a laptop, a charger, a modem, 15 mobile phones and Rs 3.65 lakh in cash.
    
The officials also said that the flat was owned by Minesh. A case has been registered against the four accused under the Gambling Act. According to the cops, Minesh was arrested once earlier.
