Mumbai: A 24-year-old man was found hanging from the ceiling fan at his Malwani residence on Saturday. The police responded to a call made by the deceased's partner. A case of suicide has been registered.
The deceased, identified as Mahesh Soni, had appeared on a reality show on television and admitted that he was homosexual and liked to wear a saree.
His partner, Akhtar Hussain, told the police that the duo had a squabble the previous night. He added that Soni had slashed his hand with a blade. Following the argument, Soni allegedly pushed Akhtar out of the house and locked the door from inside. Hearing Akhtar's pleas, the neighbours suggested that he call the cops. When the cops reached the spot, they found the house was locked from the inside. They broke open the door and found
Soni's body hanging from the ceiling fan.
The neighbours informed that Akhtar's hand was profusely bleeding when he emerged from the house after the fight.
"The neighbours have told us that Akhtar had been shouting and pleading with Soni to unlock the door, but Soni did not pay any heed. Based on the neighbour's statements we have registered an ADR (unnatural death) case and are investigating the matter," said AA Shaikh, senior police inspector of Malwani police station.
Shaikh added, "Akhtar told us that Soni had attacked him with a blade before committing suicide."
Kin blame partner
Although the police have registered a case of suicide, Soni's brother Suresh has alleged that his brother was forced to commit suicide. He alleged that he had been brainwashed into living with Akhtar, and turning homosexual.
Suresh further alleged that his brother was living under threat from Akhtar.
He said that Soni had called up his mother and expressed a desire to return to their Ghatkopar residence and live with his parents. In response to the family's allegations, Shaikh said that Akhtar's statement was being recorded, and the police were waiting for the post mortem reports.
