Mumbai: A twelve-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide at her residence in suburban Kandivali, as her father slapped her after he found his daughter frequently acquainting with male friends, police said on Sunday.
According to the police, the deceased Mani Kauder, who resided with her parents in Madrasi chawl, was playing with her friends, including boys, near her house on Saturday evening, when her father Shekhar saw her.
Shekhar had earlier slapped her twice for playing with male friends. "She had locked herself inside the house earlier as well. This time also, she did the same thing after her father slapped her for the same reason," said Senior Inspector, Suryakant Ghatge at the Kandivali police station.
As she did not open the door, her parents and elder sister slept in their relatives house on Saturday and when they returned home the next day morning, the door was still not opened, he said.
Later, the family members and neighbours broke open the door only to find the girl hanging to a ceiling fan with a rope, Ghatge said adding that further probe was on.
