A helicopter crashed today morning in the Thane Rural area of Malshej Ghat, a suburb of Mumbai. All five on board the Bell 212 helicopter belonging to United Helicharters are feared dead, sources say.
The chopper, which took off from Vile Parle this morning, had gone missing. It was scheduled to make a stop at Aurangabad on its way to Nagpur. Sources say it crashed almost 20 minutes after take-off.
The helicopter was usually used in offshore flights. Though the exact cause of the crash is not knows, reports say the chopper touched a high tension wire and crashed.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has sent a team to probe the crash.
Repeated attempts to contact the United Helicharters have failed.
