Pune:
"When rainfall will decrease, the road-repairing work would start again. However, I would like to apologise for the inconvenience that Mumbaikars are facing due to such condition of roads."
He was in the city for the inauguration of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Museum of Indian History in Vadgaon near Lohegaon. Replying to a query from the media, Thackeray said people have to face hassles owing to torrential rainfall in the city.
His statement, however, created an outrage among the opposition parties at BMC, which is ruled by Sena along with ally BJP. MNS group leader in the corporation Dilip Lande said that this assertion shows Thackeray was accepting that potholes are the norm on Mumbai roads, and the citizens will not accept his apology.
"His statement revealed that Sena does not have control over the civic body officials. If former Sena supremo Bal Thackeray would have been alive, he would have ordered action against contractors and civic officials responsible for inconveniencing people. It seems that Uddhav Thackeray is unconcerned about the pothole nuisance, which recently claimed the lives of two people in the city," Lande added.
Meanwhile, Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, who was expected to come for the ceremony, gave it a miss. Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama was also present on the occasion.
