Mumbai: Mumbaikars who have been fasting for the Jan Lokpal Bill for seven days now say that a five-step guide given to them by Hazare himself is the secret behind them staying healthy.
At midnight, 74-year-old Kisan Baburao Hazare aka Anna Hazare and 65 people from all age groups in the city completed 168 hours of fasting for the Jan Lokpal Bill.
If that seems like a big number, there's more to come, for the team believes that it can fast for as many as 7,200 hours, or 30 days, without giving up.
The secret behind the team's success, some volunteers told MiD DAY, is a five-step guide to fasting given to them by Anna himself.
Satish Kumar Pande (49), who has been fasting at Azad Maidan since midnight on August 16, said, "Annaji gave us a few tips (see-box) that we follow every day and we owe our success to them.
We can go on fasting for 30 days if we follow the tips well."
So far, the method seems to be working, for Anna in Delhi and all the people fasting in Mumbai are medically stable.
Dr Kalpana Kamani, who is monitoring the health of those who are on a fast in the city, said, "They have a little weakness which is an outcome of surviving only on water, but otherwise they are fine.
Their blood pressure is normal. It is their will power that has been keeping them going."
