Mumbai: A 29-year-old pilot with the private airline Jet Airways was killed after the car in which he was travelling rammed into divider of a flyover in suburban Andheri in the wee hours yesterday, police said.
The driver, Kamlesh Kumar Kahar (30), was arrested under IPC sections 279 (rash driving) and 304A (causing death by negligence).
Saumik Chatterjee, the pilot, was on his way to the airport when the accident took place on a flyover on the Western Express Highway at about 5.45 am, said Nandkumar Dhumal, senior inspector, Andheri police station.
According to police, the car, hired by the airline for its employees, had picked up Chatterjee from his residence in Mahakali Caves area in Andheri.
Mr Kahar, who was not associated with Jet Airways, lost control over the vehicle and ran it into the divider.
Mr Chatterjee, who was on the back seat, suffered excessive bleeding, said Dhumal.
Mr Kahar escaped with minor injuries and was later arrested.
