Comedian Kapil Sharma has moved court against BMC order to demolish portions of his home
Kapil Sharma's home in Mumbai will not see a demolition squad for now. The Bombay High Court today suspended till November 23 a civic notice to tear down a part of his apartment in Goregaon.
The BMC or Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation issued a demolition notice to Mr Sharma in April, claiming that some portions in the actor's apartment in the 18-storey DLH Enclave complex are illegal; space meant for parking has been built over.
Mr Sharma has reportedly told the court that the notice is "bad in law" and has "malafide intentions".
Last month, Mr Sharma alleged in tweets tagging Prime Minister Narendra Modi that he had been asked by a civic official to pay Rs 5 lakh bribe for construction work in his office. "Is it your Acche Din?" the popular comedy host tweeted, leaving the administration in Maharashtra flustered. The comments drew sharp reactions, especially as the comedian has nearly 63 lakh followers on Twitter.
Both the BMC and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis hastened to reassure Mr Sharma that action would be taken.
Days later, the civic body said there were irregularities not just in Mr Sharma's office but also his Goregaon apartment.
Mr Sharma's lawyer Pradeep Thorat said: "A similar case in connection with the same flat is already pending in the city civil court."
Along with Mr Sharma, the BMC issued notice to several flat owners including actor Irrfan Khan.
