Mumbai:
The Lalbaug-Parel area in central Mumbai will be covered by CCTVs, Rural Development Minister Jayant Patil, who is also the Guardian Minister of Mumbai city district said in Mumbai on Thursday.
Talking to reporters, Mr Patil said all roads in Lalbaug and Parel area leading to the famous 'Lalbaug cha raja' ganpati pandal are always crowded with devotees.
"Hence, CCTVs would be useful to keep a watch on traffic control and crowd management," Mr Patil felt.
The CCTV network in this area would be on a permanent basis and it would be left out of the upcoming CCTV project in Mumbai where 5,000 cameras would be installed.
The CCTVs in Lalbaug-Parel would be installed by the civic body with funds from Mumbai city District Planning Development Council (DPDC).
The beer bars and permit rooms will remain shut during Anant Chaturdashi, the last day of Ganpati Festival.
Earlier, Mr Patil chaired a meeting of the co-ordination committee of all sarvajanik ganpati pandals from Island city of Mumbai.
The city body has put in place a system where citizens can post pictures of potholes on the civic website and repairs would be done in five to six days, he said adding that there were less potholes this year as the city has not received good rainfall.
