Mumbai:
Disgusted with an auto driver's act of allegedly raping a four-year-old girl, the Kalyan Bar Association has decided that nobody will represent the accused in court. Dombivali resident Rajesh Wamne (42) was arrested by Vishnu Nagar police on Tuesday after the victim's mother filed a complaint with them.
"After the offence was registered, we arrested Wamne. But, yesterday when we brought him to court, nobody represented him and we got police custody of the accused until December 18," said a police officer from Vishnu Nagar police station.
"We decided that no one would represent Wamne, as he has committed a shameful act," said Siddharth Karangule, advocate and president of the Kalyan Bar Association.
According to the police, Wamne would ferry the victim to school and back. But on November 27, while dropping the victim home from school, he took a detour and took her to his home where he is alleged to have forced himself on her.
After reaching home, the victim narrated the incident to her parents. They were initially reluctant to register a complaint with the cops, but the mother later made up her mind, as she realised that Wamne would continue his act, if he his not taught a lesson.
"Parents trust these rickshaw drivers and handover their kids to pick and drop them from school. Children call them uncle. Wamne's act is disgraceful," added Karangule.
Wamne has been booked under sections 376, 377 and 354 of the IPC. Police said that the accused is married and has a son and a daughter.
